Senior Move Managers — Southeastern Wisconsin
Answers to the most common questions about our senior relocation and moving services throughout Southeastern Wisconsin.
Before Your Move
Q: How far in advance should I contact AGOT?
Our concierge approach to moving is best utilized as early as possible in your decision to make a move. Partnering with realtors, senior communities, and families, we can assist with everything from readying your house for photos and showings to helping you set the calendar of move-related events and culminating with setting up your new home.
Q: How will I know what will fit in my new space?
Whenever possible, AGOT will visit your new space to measure in order to create a scaled floor plan. We then measure the furniture you'd like to move and start the process of arranging them on the scaled model. This helps set expectations for how the new space will look, allows us to identify any 'pinch points' in the floor plan and streamline the decision-making process.
Q: Do you handle moves into senior communities and care facilities?
Moves into senior communities are routine for AGOT. We partner with community administration to plan the move in advance. AGOT, whenever possible, will visit your new apartment ahead of the move to measure, understand where the moving truck must park and learn about community-specific policies and procedures.
Q: How will I know what to move with me and what to leave behind?
Through meaningful conversation, the floor plan, and an understanding of your move goals, AGOT Move Manager will advise you on furniture arrangements, quantities and safety considerations for your new space. All final decisions are the client's to make.
Q: Do you provide packing materials?
Yes. We stock and provide standard and specialty moving boxes and necessary supplies for your move. Our supplier is the same as the large movers, however our lower overhead allows us to provide the packing supplies at a lower cost to clients. Whenever possible we will supplement gently used boxes and paper for new supplies to help reduce project costs.
Q: Can family that lives out of state hire AGOT to assist their parent or loved one?
Yes. Families are allowed to sign, execute and pay for contracts on behalf of a parent or loved one. However, in accordance with NASMM Ethics, all final decisions about the move are at the discretion of the person that is moving (client). Projects involving activated POAs, conservatorships and the like are managed in partnership and at the discretion of the legal authority.
Q: How do you handle senior moves that are headed to another state?
NASMM has a national network of certified move managers just like AGOT. We will help you identify, interview and hire a move manager in your new area to assist with the planning and to help unpack and set up your new space. AGOT works with local movers that are agents of national van lines with partnerships across the US and beyond.
Q: Do you work with real estate agents and other professionals?
Yes. We will work alongside your real estate agent and any other contracted resource to ensure your move needs and calendar meet the overall goals of selling or buying property.
Q: Are you insured?
Yes. AGOT is fully bonded and insured.
The Moving Process
Q: How long does the move process take?
The time it takes to complete a move depends on many factors including how decisively decisions are made, the quantity of items that must be sorted through, the quantity of items to be packed, as well as the size of the home and overall accumulation.
Q: What do I do with out-of-date documents that I do not need anymore but have personal info on them?
AGOT provides secure shredding, free of charge, to our clients. We have locked shred bins at our office — like any bank or law firm. The truck comes to our office and shreds on site. You have better (and important) things to do with your time than sit at a small shredder for hours feeding 5 pages at a time.
Q: What happens with the items in my dresser drawers?
In most cases, soft items like clothing and linens can stay in the drawers during transport. The loose change, buttons, small batteries, collar stays and earring backs found in the 'typical top drawer' are secured in paper for transport. In cases of oversized furniture or furniture with compromised integrity, the decision may be made to remove all drawers and/or items.
Q: What happens with my hanging clothes?
Whenever possible, hanging clothes are transported in wardrobe boxes. These are tall, thick boxes with a hanging bar across the top which allows clothing to hang rather than be folded and become wrinkled.
Q: Does AGOT manage estate sales?
AGOT does not manage estate sales. However, as a concierge move management firm, we have trusted estate sale partners to introduce to you. AGOT (if requested) will join any meetings or tours with third party resources and make sure time frames support the move calendar and overall project goals.
Q: What is the hardest part of move preparation?
While this is different for each project, some of the more common issues tend to be: current home accumulations don't allow enough free space for sorting, emotional attachments that inhibit decisive decision making, or cleanliness/safety concerns.
Q: How do I get items to loved ones out of state?
AGOT will coordinate and oversee shipping with partnerships of long-haul transporters for large items or large loads as well as specialty shippers for fragile items like glass and art, which allow you and your loved ones to transition cherished possessions safely.
After Your Move
Q: Does AGOT offer post-move support?
Yes. You can rely on AGOT to support you in your new space after the move. Let us know what you need!
Q: How do you know where to put my things in my new space?
Many clients trust AGOT to unpack and set up their new space in a thoughtful and meaningful way. Typically, since we pack your items, we are able to unpack and put them away to recreate what clients have been used to in their space for years. At client request, a meeting at the new space can be arranged to label cabinets, cupboards and closets prior to move day.
Q: What happens to all the packing materials used for my move?
AGOT will remove all packing materials, boxes, and paper on the day we unpack and set up your new space.
